Oxidative Stress in Dilated Cardiomyopathy

چکیده

Cardiomyopathy represents a diverse group of heart muscle disorders, which are further classified on the basis of their anatomic and hemodynamic findings. Hearts with increased antioxidant capacity have been reported to be more resistant to in vivo and in vitro oxidative stress. On the other hand, cardiomyopathy with heart failure is accompanied by increased free radicals and lipid peroxidation and a relative deficit in ‘antioxidant reserve’ may contribute to the decompensated state. The aim of this study was to assess the status of oxidative stress by a study on level variation of pro-oxidant malonaldehyde (MDA) and antioxidant ceruloplasmin (Cp) in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy of ischemic and idiopathic etiology. 76 dilated cardiomyopathy patients (52 men and 24 women, ages 2 years to 65 years) of which 42 are of idiopathic (primary cases) and 34 are of ischemic etiology (secondary cases), and 100 healthy volunteers matched for age and sex were considered for the level variation of MDA and Cp. A significant increase in the patient group compared to controls (P<0.01, 0.05), was observed in both pro-oxidant malonaldehyde and antioxidant ceruloplasmin levels, which can be correlated to membrane susceptibility to peroxidation as well as increased free radical generation in patients. We conclude that in patients with idiopathic or ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy, increased antioxidant levels may be in response to the increased peroxidation. Thereby, protecting the heart muscle from further degradation/tissue injury and conferring resistance to free radical generation in such patients.

The value of myocardial perfusion imaging in differentiating between idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy from the ischemic form [Persian]

Introduction: Differentiating between ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) is important as coronary revascularization can improve prognosis in the ischemic subgroup. Due to inherent problems of coronary angiography in patients with depressed ejection fraction (EF) introducing a noninvasive tool to diagnose those who will benefit from angiography seems...

Increased oxidative stress in dilated cardiomyopathic heart failure.

In the present study, we assessed oxidative stress in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy of ischemic or idiopathic etiology. For this reason we measured whole blood reduced glutathione, erythrocyte superoxide dismutase, susceptibility of erythrocyte membranes and erythrocytes to peroxidation, and SH content of erythrocyte membranes in 12 patients (8 men and 4 women, ages 31 to 66 years) with ...

Decreased oxidative stress in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy one year after immunoglobulin adsorption.

OBJECTIVES In a substudy to a recently reported investigation that demonstrated the benefit of immunoglobulin adsorption (immunoadsorption) for patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC), we tested whether this benefit is associated with a reduction of oxidative stress. BACKGROUND The progression of cardiomyopathy is believed to be related to the increase of oxidative stress. There...

Pathogenesis and therapy of autoimmunity-induced dilated cardiomyopathy.

Myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy can potentially originate from autoimmune responses. Although genetic predisposition, viral infection, molecular mimicry, and oxidative stress are potential contributing factors to dilated cardiomyopathy, the underlying mechanism (s) has not been fully elucidated. Autoantibodies (AABs) against cardiotropic targets such as ss-adrenergic receptors, mitochond...

Oxidative Stress in Dilated Cardiomyopathy Caused by MYBPC3 Mutation

Cardiomyopathies can result from mutations in genes encoding sarcomere proteins including MYBPC3, which encodes cardiac myosin binding protein-C (cMyBP-C). However, whether oxidative stress is augmented due to contractile dysfunction and cardiomyocyte damage in MYBPC3-mutated cardiomyopathies has not been elucidated. To determine whether oxidative stress markers were elevated in MYBPC3-mutated ...
